Nineteenth century France may seem medieval thanks to many of its laws and customs. However, the Parisian system of regulations for prostitutes can actually be seen as quite liberal - many countries currently have laws that aren't as tolerant. The French legislation served as a model for all of Europe’s prostitution laws in later years. Therefore, it is important to recognize both its importance and its influence.
