Conclusion

Although, "The social representations of motherhood and prostitution lie at opposite ends of the continuum of female gender roles,” [1] and are perceived to be incompatible by society, this exhibit has proven that the identities of prosititute and parent can, should, and do often exist within one body. 

There's a tension between working as a prostitute to provide for your children and being understood as a "good" mother. This tension results in prostitute mothers being erased from literature and art, scapegoated as lazy, and denied basic rights. For many, sex work is an occupation held while trying to raise children and is not necessarily an identity marker. For others it is an intergral part of their personality.
