Conclusion
Fashion appears to be a crucial, yet understudied element of womens' history. Often disregarded by historians and art historians as frivolous, feminist theorists as diminishing of and trivializing of women. Could the same not be said of the study of prostitution? That focusing on this element of womens history objectifies and demeans the role of women in shaping history? Towards a more trivial history! One that accounts for the material experience of women. Only then may the experience of women seen as inconsequential become a part of the historical, academic canon itself.
