British College Student Sex Workers

British media outlets have also reported on students, especially ones in medical school, participating in sex work to pay for their tuitions. According to surveys, 10% of British students claim to know a student who is involved in sex work. While going to medical school is often viewed as guaranteeing a successful well-paying career in the future, that is not always the case. Medical school tuition costs over five times as much as the tuition of other departments, often leaving students in debt and strapped for cash after graduation [1].

However, like in the USA, there are also students who participate in sex work for conspicous consumption. Medical student Clover Pittilla made the news in 2014 after she confessed to having had 11 sugar daddies who have spoiled her with designer goods. She said that "boys are immature – especially when you’re only 19" and "do nothing but mess you around. At least if a sugar daddy breaks my heart, I can cry into a brand new pair of Manolo Blahniks" [2].
